THE driver of an unmarked police car clocked travelling at 147mph on the A90 was granted exemption from prosecution under a law that allows emergency vehicles to ignore speed limits and a Police Scotland spokeswoman has explained that it is imperative that high-speed training is carried out(“"Police car clocked travelling at 147mph on A90", The Herald, January 10).

I struggle to imagine under what possible circumstances a police car should respond at 147mph.

Perhaps there should be a police-only speed awareness course for the 300 officers caught speeding in Tayside in the last three years.
