I LIVE in the West End of Glasgow. Some time ago residents were consulted by the council on a couple of occasions as to whether we wanted permit parking to be introduced in the area. Some residents were in favour but the majority were against. However the council is going ahead anyway, totally ignoring the views of the majority of residents.

On another issue the streets and pavements where we live are in a disgusting state with mulched leaves everywhere which have not been cleared since last August when they fell.

The result is dangerous for pedestrians, added to which drains are mostly blocked because of the mulched leaves.

The moral of this letter is that the council is happy to overrule the wishes of residents with regard to something that residents don’t want (permit parking) and at the same time ignore the wishes of residents with regard to what residents do want (streets and pavements cleaned and drains cleared).

In these circumstances it is not surprising that those of us who pay council tax wonder why.
