PRESIDENT Emmanuel Macron says “be my guest” to the UK’s wish for access to the EU single market, but then demands we contribute to their budget (“Macron: UK and France ‘making a new tapestry’”, The Herald, January 19).

Is that typical of French hospitality to their guests?

IT’S interesting to see how easily Theresa May parts with British taxpayers’ money, with us to stump up £45m to improve security at Calais. Can we now expect to see Emmanuel Macron give money to Italy to help it to secure its borders through which refugees pass on their way to Calais? I think not.
