I SUGGEST that if Stuart Neville (Letters, May 16) likes the sound of a bicycle bell that he buys one to tinkle as and when he wishes. A check on the Highway Code this morning tells me, in Annex 1, that "it is recommended that you fit a bell to your cycle".

Now given how many people walk along with headphones in their ears or looking at their phones, or jump into, rather than out of, the way of a bike when an alert is given, I consider that it is testament to the skill and attention of the people who cycle past Mr Neville that he is able to walk along and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the River Kelvin path.
