DOWNTON were unable to restore some confidence after their FA Vase exit, going down 5-2 at Thatcham Town.
They were behind after just four minutes and conceded another three minutes into first half stoppage time.
There was little improvement after the break as Town went 5-0 up, but a Matt Guy penalty gave the Robins some impetus and they dominated the last 20 minutes. Mike Budd also scored a consolation.
Downton boss Mitch Blake said: "Their first goal came about because individual players weren't doing their individual jobs, and it's obviously disappointing to lose another so deep into injury time.
"Then we found ourselves 5-0 down and it was only when we were given a penalty that we came to life. If we had performed for the whole game as we did for the last 20 minutes, we might have got a result, but we were too far out of it by then."
On Saturday the Robins host Brockenhurst.
Downton's reserves lost 2-1 at Andover last Wednesday and drew 0-0 at home to Bemerton over the weekend.
