NICOLA Sturgeon's husband has seen his Christmas shopping plans thrown into chaos just 10 days before the big day - after Holyrood journalists ruined his gift.

The First Minister, who transformed the selfie into a political art form at May's general election, was presented with her very own selfie stick by The Scottish Parliamentary Journalists' Association, at her Christmas media reception at Bute House last night.

The Herald: ABERDEEN, SCOTLAND - OCTOBER 17: First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon takes a selfie on stage following her keynote speech at the 81st annual SNP conference at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on October 17, 2015 in Aberdeen, Scotland

And she was apparently delighted with her new toy, immediately putting it to use by taking snaps with her guests. The results were later shared through her official First Ministerial Twitter account, and she also took the chance to publicly thank the group for the present.

However, Peter Murrell, the SNP chief executive and Ms Sturgeon's husband, was rather less impressed. He tweeted: "Well that's that pressie ruined... What can I get @NicolaSturgeon for Christmas now?"

Suggestions from helpful Twitter users included a spa break, shoes, Scottish independence and a new transport minister, following Derek Mackay's handling of the Forth Road Bridge closure.
