Ukip leadership hopeful Suzanne Evans has suggested judges should face the prospect of being sacked by MPs in the wake of the Article 50 case in the High Court.

She warned about judges increasingly intervening in political decisions and suggested the judiciary should face being grilled by a Commons select committee with the power to recommend sacking them.

Ms Evans claimed Lord Chief Justice Lord Thomas had a "conflict of interest" in the Article 50 case as a "committed Europhile".

She told BBC2's Daily Politics: "I have been concerned for quite a while that the judiciary is becoming more politically active. I think there needs to be some kind of recall mechanism for them, possibly.

"I think they need to be more accountable and I think this case actually highlights it very well."

She said: "I don't see why they shouldn't be accountable to a select committee in Parliament."

Ms Evans said the cross-party panels should have "more teeth" and suggested they should be able to sack people.
