Suspended Tory MP Nadine Dorries could meet the Tory Party Chief Whip as early as today to explain why she walked out on Parliament and her constituents to appear in a reality TV show.

Senior party sources indicated the Mid Bedfordshire MP's dressing down from Sir George Young will take place "soon" after she flew back from her Australian adventure yesterday.

Ms Dorries, who appeared on the ITV show I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here! claimed she sought permission beforehand.

However, a source close to Sir George said Ms Dorries had been very clearly informed in a letter that she was suspended pending their meeting.

Another Conservative source said: "When Nadine went to the jungle, she was suspended from the party, pending a meeting with the Chief Whip.

"Now a meeting can take place and I presume that meeting will take place soon.

"She will have to explain herself to the Chief Whip. She says she sought permission from the whips and received permission – the whips that were around at the time say that's not the case."

Sir George has the final decision on whether to remove the Tory whip.

Meanwhile, Ms Dorries said at Heathrow Airport: "I've had three sitting days away from Parliament. The rest has been over half-term.

"There are MPs who have been away for two weeks and still haven't returned."
