Andrew Marr has made a brief return to interrogating politicians on his Sunday morning BBC TV show, six months after suffering a stroke.

In his first on-air interview since his illness, the Glasgow-born journalist talked to former Labour MP David Miliband.

Mr Marr, 53, appeared as a guest on the flagship politics show in April, when he described the moment he tore his carotid artery while exercising and later woke up unable to move.

Since then, his eponymous programme has been hosted by a succession of different BBC broadcasters.

Marr yesterday revealed he will return to TV full-time in September, in time for the annual party conference season. He said: "I've really enjoyed getting stuck back into the day job – it was fantastic to be back interviewing and I'm looking forward to returning to work on a more regular basis."

Labour's shadow foreign secretary Douglas Alexander said it was "really good" that Marr was back, while Conservative former Welsh Secretary Cheryl Gillian described his appearance on the show as brilliant.
