ED Miliband's discomfort over Labour's links with the Unite union was compounded after his briefing notes for PMQs were inadvertently left in a gent's toilets in the Commons.

The notes clearly showed the Labour leader was expecting David Cameron to take him to task over the party's little local difficulty in Falkirk.

Under the heading "Falkirk" the notes said: "Let's have a debate about ethics.

"This is a Prime Minister who had dinners for donors in Downing Street, gave tax cuts to his Christmas card list and brought Andy Coulson into the heart of Downing Street."

Which is what Mr Miliband actually said.

A further suggested response was about Tom Watson MP, whose office assistant was Unite's candidate in the Falkirk selection process before it was taken over by Labour HQ.

The notes included the pre-prepared line: "I'll take Tom Watson over Andy Coulson any day and I'd far rather have Tom Watson working for me who led the campaign on the phone hacking scandal than have brought Andy Coulson into the heart of Downing Street."

Under the heading "Unite Buying Influence", the proposed riposte was: "This is the man who buys donations with a millionaires' tax cut and holds dinners for donors in Downing Street."
