Campaigners against gay marriage are to protest at a meeting of the Scottish Government's Cabinet.

More than 100 supporters of the group Scotland For Marriage are expected to join the demonstration when First Minister Alex Salmond and his ministers meet at Reid Kerr College.

The SNP administration recently announced plans for legislation to allow same-sex couples to marry.

However, the decision was condemned by many of the country's religious leaders, with Scotland For Marriage describing the plans as "ill-conceived".

Backed by the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Scotland and the non-denominational Christian Institute charity, among others, the group will use its protest to raise fears that changing the law could see teachers disciplined if they refuse to use books about same-sex relationships.

Protesters plan to have banners showing the covers of books such as Daddy's Roommate, Mom And Mum Are Getting Married and The Sissy Duckling.

A Government spokesman said: "We will protect freedom of expression and religious freedom including in educational settings, and we are currently undertaking a focused stakeholder consultation to make sure this happens.

"This will include con-sideration of any provisions that may be required to protect religious beliefs of teachers and parents."
