ENERGY giant ScottishPower said Scotland could be producing 100% of its electricity requirements from renewable sources by 2020.

However, it told MSPs that meeting the target would depend on several factors, including clear commitments from both the Scottish and UK Governments to support policies that maintained investor confidence to deliver new capacity at the pace required.

In a submission to the Economy, Energy and Tourism committee it warned it was vital that Holyrood and Westminster worked together to ensure there was a robust electricity market with an effective support mechanism for low-carbon generation to attract investment.
