Gavin Rae has been giving Dundee team-mate Martin Boyle a lift to training this season.

The striker has been concerned instead in taking his side the extra mile in the SPFL Championship title race.

Boyle scored twice on Saturday as Dundee stole a march ahead of rivals Hamilton Academical and Falkirk, with Cowdenbeath overwhelmed 4-0 at Dens Park. A win for the home side has moved them two points clear at the top of the table.

It will likely prove the dominant topic of conversation between Rae and his young passenger during the drive to training this morning. "I share a car to training with Martin every day from Aberdeen," said Rae. "The wee man was a bit shy at first but he's come out his shell now which is a big thing for any youngster. He's a good lad and is really enjoying his football just now.

"Martin just needs to keep things going and hopefully he can keep turning it on like he did here to help us get to where we want to be."

Cowdenbeath are beset with concerns that they are going nowhere fast in their bid to avoid the relegation play-offs, with Raith Rovers a full six points ahead. "We've got three massive games left which we have to try and get full points from," said manager Jimmy Nicholl. "The players know that."
