THE fixture between Edinburgh University and St Andrews University, hailed by both institutions as "the world's oldest varsity match", is returning to Scotland this year.

In recent years the teams have played each other in London, but they will meet at BT Murrayfield on 26 September - and their women's teams as well as their second and third XVs will also play each other.

"St Andrews and Edinburgh Universities are both founder members of the Scottish Rugby Union," Ian Rankin, the SRU president, said. "They have been playing each other since the 1860s and believe they are the world's oldest varsity match. In recent years they have taken their fixture to London and been hosted at London Scottish, but given the rich heritage that surrounds this game we are pleased to be able to host it at BT Murrayfield."
