EAST Fife rose to the top of the table courtesy of a deserved 2-0 victory at Queen’s Park. Craig Murray opened the scoring in the 27th minute on the rebound after Nathan Austin had been denied. The free-scoring Austin then added a second in the 62nd minute, showing impressive skill to create an opening before finishing confidently past William Muir.
The Fifers are top on goals scored, overtaking Elgin City who defeated toiling Stirling Albion 1-0. Daniel Moore set up Kyle Macleod for what proved to be the winner in the 12th minute after which Stirling’s best attempt at a riposte was a long-range Steven Doris shot that was touched wide by Mark Hurst.
Berwick Rangers let a two-goal lead slip to hand Arbroath their first point of the season in a 2-2 draw.
Early goals from Darren Lavery and Michael McKenna appeared to have set Berwick on their way to a comfortable afternoon. However, the league’s bottom side bounced back as Andy Ryan pulled one back in the 18th minute before Darren Ramsey’s late volley rescued a point for Arbroath.
Sean Higgins scored twice in Clyde’s 3-1 win over East Stirling.Higgins’ opener in the 53rd minute was soon added to by a Conor Greene own goal. Nathan Shepherd halved Shire’s deficit in the 72nd minute only for Higgins to almost immediately restore Clyde’s two-goal cushion with an impressive free-kick.
Smart Osadolor also netted a double as Annan Athletic overcame Montrose 3-2. The Nigerian fired Annan ahead and Matt Flynn then doubled their lead before Graham Webster’s 50th-minute header gave Montrose hope only for it to vanish when Osadolor headed his second of the game for Annan.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
