ALAN ARCHIBALD is eyeing early moves in the January transfer window to bolster Partick Thistle’s attacking options for the second half of the Premiership campaign.

The Jags have recovered from a poor start to the season to climb the standings in recent weeks and continued their upturn in form with victory over Dundee United on Saturday.

Kris Doolan netted the only goal of the game at Tannadice as Thistle made it three wins on the spin following the 5-2 triumph at Kilmarnock and 2-1 win at home to Inverness.

Thistle will lose the services of Robbie Muirhead when he returns to United early next month and boss Archibald is eager to add to his forward line to help his side maintain their top flight momentum.

Archibald said: “I think we still need to strengthen. Going forward, we need a couple of options. We are a couple of injuries away from being very light.

“We lost Gary Fraser at the weekend, it was the last minute of training on Friday and he went over on his ankle. We are short in the front areas and we are well aware of that.

“We are always looking to strengthen if good players come up. Robbie will go back to United so that will free some money up to get someone else in.

“We have got a couple of targets but we are waiting to see if they will definitely be available.

“It is a strange time of year January because you are looking at players that aren’t in squads or are out of the picture and the manager might not have plans for them.

“Sometimes they don’t find out until late that they can go and until after a manager has got another player in.

“It is a bit of a wait and see but there are one or two we want to get in early on.

“With Robbie going back on January 2, we need to try and replace him as early as we can.”
