CELTIC were turned down by Manchester City in their efforts to sign Chidiebere Nwakali, says the 19-year-old's brother.

The Nigerian youth internationalist's elder sibling Allwell Nwakali has revealed that he's on the radar of the Parkhead club.

Nwakali belongs to Man City but has been on loan with Norwegian club IK Start this season - the same team that the Bhoys recently signed Kristoffer Ajer from.

The Herald: Celtic unveiled new signing Kristoffer Ajer this week

He recently travelled to Manchester to discuss his future with the Citizens, as his loan deal at Start is due to expire in the next few weeks.

Nwakali has caught the eye of Parkhead scouts, but the Scottish champions were rejected in their initial move for the player, according to his brother.

"Celtic wanted to sign Chidiebere last week, but the club gave them a negative response," said Allwell Nwakali.
