Scotland’s men stayed on track to defend their European Amateur Team Championship by finishing joint top of the two-round qualifying stage at Golf de Chantilly in France.

Ian Rae’s side, who took the title twelve months ago in Sweden, matched the host nation France with a three-over par team tally of 713 to set up a quarter-final tie against Spain.

Scottish Amateur Champion Robert MacIntyre produced the team’s best score of the day with a 69, while Grant Forrest fired a 70 to share third place in the individual standings. The consistent Craig Howie added a 72 to his level par opening round of 71, with Nairn’s Sandy Scott on 144 after a second round 74.

Number one seeds France will face Sweden while third place Italy take on Ireland, the only other home nation to qualify for the top flight after England could only finish in tenth spot.

There was joy too for the Scotland boys team, who earned a hard fought share of fourth place at their qualifying in Austria to set up a match with Denmark. The Scottish women's team failed to make the top flight of matchplay in Iceland, however.
