JACOB Blyth, the striker who made his competitive debut for Motherwell in the 2-0 defeat to Rangers on Saturday, has predicted Joe Dodoo, his former Leicester City team mate, will flourish at Ibrox.

Mark Warburton is hoping the Ladbrokes Championship winners will complete the signing of Dodoo, the 21-year-old forward who made his debut for English champions Leicester last season, this week.

Blyth came through the youth ranks at the King Power Stadium alongside the Ghana-born player and is pleased his close friend has won a move to his new club’s Premiership rivals.

He believes that Dodoo, who scored a hat-trick against Bury and netted against West Ham in the Capital One Cup last term, will be an excellent acquisition for Warburton.

"I'm good mates with Joe,” he said. “It would be a great move for him if he signs for Rangers. He is a good lad and he has bags of ability.

“I was at Leicester City with him for four years and we played together week-in week-out for the under-21s together. He played on the wing and I was up front. He will do well up in Scotland. He is fit and athletic and strong and very direct.

“Will he fit into that Rangers team today? It's like anything else, he will have to fight for his place. But I know he has a brilliant attitude and he will be willing to do that.

"I don't know if other English Premiership clubs were interested in him. Am I surprised he is going to Rangers? No. If the chance arose for him to go to a team like Rangers then he would have to go?”

Blyth, who played for Cambridge United and Blackpool on loan last season, and his Motherwell team mates passed up a series of excellent goalscoring chances against Rangers on Saturday.

The 23-year-old, though, is confident that Mark McGhee’s team, who take on Annan at Galabank in their next Betfred Cup group game this Saturday, will become more clinical up front with matches.

"That sharpness of front will come, of course,” he said. “We've only been together two weeks so we are still bonding, still gelling. The more games we play the better we will get."
