RANGERS attempt to sign Joleon Lescott has ended after the former England centre half decided not to move to Glasgow for family reasons.

Lescott, who was told he could leave Aston Villa at the end of last season after the Midlands club was relegated from the Premier League in England, had held talks with Mark Warburton this week.

The 34-year-old, who has been linked with a move to Sunderland, opted not to move to Scotland after coming through a medical.

Rangers have now turned their attentions to signing Philipe Senderos, the Swiss internationalist, who has been training with the Ladbrokes Championship winners at Auchenhowie this week.

Meanwhile, Rangers have moved a step close to completing the signing of Joe Garner, the Preston North End striker who will cost them a £1.5 million transfer fee. The 28-year-old centre forward is set to undergo a medical and be unveiled early next week.
