EDINBURGH RUGBY fly-half Jason Tovey has been ruled out for eight weeks with a wrist injury.

The Wales Under-20 international, who moved to the capital club on a two-year deal in May, sustained the problem during a training session last week.

Tovey is likely to be out of action for around two months after a scan revealed a small fracture, the Pro12 club announced on Tuesday.

However, the 27-year-old is not thought to require surgery for the problem.

Scotland international Duncan Weir is set to wear the number 10 jersey when Edinburgh's league season kicks off away to Cardiff Blues this Saturday.

The length of Tovey's absence is likely to see him miss six Pro12 games and the first two rounds of the European Challenge Cup against Timisoara Saracens and Harlequins.
