FORMER Rangers captain Steven Davis insists he cannot wait for the renewal of the Old Firm rivalry on Saturday after admitting that nothing beats the passion of a battle against Celtic.
The Glasgow clubs will lock horns in a top-flight league fixture for the first time in four years when Brendan Rodgers’ side welcome their Ibrox counterparts.
Even though Davis locks horns with some of the best players on the planet every week at Southampton, whom he joined in summer 2012, the Northern Ireland international insists the sheer scale of an Old Firm clash is unrivalled.
He said: “For me there is no better game to play in, you want to play in intense games when the atmosphere is electric and that’s definitely what the Old Firm is.
“I’ve missed watching it consistently as a fan over the last few years, I managed to play in it numerous times and had some positive and some negative results. There is no better feeling walking off a pitch having won a game against your biggest rivals.
“It’s huge for Scottish football, it’s been missed and you’ll see what it brings. With the attention it brings as well, that can only be a positive thing.
“Rangers are back in a good position, they’re moving forward and there is a lot of positivity around the club. I think everyone is looking forward to the game on Saturday and I’m no different.”
