HARRY FORRESTER, the Rangers midfielder, admits Mark Warburton’s side will have to be more clinical in the final third if they are to continue climbing the Premiership standings in the coming weeks.
It has been a mixed start to the campaign for Rangers as defeats to Celtic and Aberdeen piled the pressure on Warburton and his players. A 2-0 win over Partick Thistle on Saturday moved the Gers up to fifth spot but they remain seven points off the Premiership pace.
Niko Kranjcar and Andy Halliday were on target against the Jags and Forrester is confident Rangers can continue moving in the right direction.
“It is a winning industry and we know that,” he said. “In recent weeks, we have been better and we have played a lot better.
“It was a sickening blow at Aberdeen and it seems to be that is the way things are going at the moment. It wasn’t a foul and then the boy puts it in from 30 yards.
“It wasn’t the best performance [against Thistle] but the main thing was to get the three points and get a bit of confidence back.
“We were dominating games. There have been good displays defensively of late but we are putting pressure on the defence by not converting the chances that we are making.
“We are making a lot of chances. Niko’s goal calmed everybody down, Andy had a great finish and that is what the gaffer has been calling out for. We have to take that bit of care in the final third because that is the hardest part of the game but where you win and lose football matches.”
Rangers ensured they went into the international break on the back of a timely Premiership boost as they secured derby victory over Thistle. After also dropping points against Hamilton, Kilmarnock and Ross County in the opening weeks of the campaign, it was a welcome outcome for boss Warburton.
A trip to Inverness is next on the agenda a week on Friday before attentions will turn to the Betfred Cup and the second Old Firm showdown of the season.
“We know what we have got inside and that is the frustrating thing,” Forrester told RangersTV. “We all know what we have got, we work hard day in day out every single one of us.
“To not be getting your rewards on Saturday, then you get pressure, you get comments here, there and everywhere. We are trying. To get the rewards on Saturday was a relief and we have got to go again against Inverness.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
