JOE LEWIS: First real involvement was to pluck a cross out of the air after 36 minutes then made the save of the half with his legs to deny Jai Quitongo the opening goal. A few more worrying moments in the second half but earned his clean sheet. 6
SHAY LOGAN: Given license to push forward regularly in the first half given how little defending he was required to do. Bit busier in the second period but handled it comfortably. 6
MARK REYNOLDS: Kept busy by the ever-dangerous Quitongo and mistake let the striker in for Morton’s first chance of the game late in the first half. A few awkward moments in the second period but did just about enough. 5
ANTHONY O’CONNOR: Similarly put under pressure by Morton during a second-half spell while his header from one of Aberdeen’s many first-half corners looped over the top. 6
ANDREW CONSIDINE: Not a full-back ever likely to charge up and down the wing but was solid enough and got up the park on occasion, too. Clever header across goal also gave him an assist for Aberdeen’s first goal before being booked late in the game. 6
GRAEME SHINNIE: Usual industrious performance in front of the Aberdeen defence but also willing to push forward whenever space opened up. Put in a terrific cross for the first goal then had a chance of his own moments later but thrashed his effort off target. 7
NIALL MCGINN: A perennially busy and effective presence down Aberdeen’s right. Pulled a first-half volley off target then was booked early in the second period for simulation. Late goalbound stab well saved before setting up McLean for the second. 7
JAMES MADDISON: Posed a regular threat from dead balls, although should have done better with one first-half chance from open play than pull it wide of target. Linked play well between midfield and attack. 7
KENNY MCLEAN: Former St Mirren man sealed the win with Aberdeen’s second late in the game. Had also come close to giving his team an early lead with a near-post flick that was well saved by the goalkeeper, while a later effort sailed narrowly off target. 7
JONNY HAYES: Unfortunate to see an early header strike the crossbar. Drifted in and out the game after that but his pace meant he remained a threat on the counter. 6
ADAM ROONEY: The goalscoring hero once again, his well-placed header enough to end Morton’s resistance and pave the way for an Aberdeen victory. Had been quiet in the first half before a late header crashed against the crossbar. 7

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
