FORMER Dundee United and Scotland defender Maurice Malpas has joined the Inverness Caledonian Thistle coaching staff until the end of the season.

The Caley Jags are currently embroiled in a relegation fight, sitting five points adrift at the foot of the Ladbrokes Premiership table with five matches remaining.

Malpas previously had a spell at the Highland club as an assistant to Terry Butcher between 2009 and 2013, before leaving to follow the Englishman to Hibernian.

"I am delighted to welcome Maurice back to the club and to my staff," said Caley boss Richie Foran.

"He is a great coach with huge experience of Scottish football and his knowledge and extra set of eyes will be invaluable for the challenges ahead."
