FALKIRK manager Peter Houston has revealed that Celtic considered a bid for Tottenham Hotspur and England star Dele Alli while he was at MK Dons.

The midfielder earned a move to the Premier League in 2015 after impressing for the League One side and has since developed into one of English football's most sought-after talents.

Houston, who used to work as a scout for the Scottish champions, revealed on BBC's Sportsound programme that the Hoops had monitored Alli's progress but failed to make a move.

He said: “I used to work for a short spell at Celtic, and John Park had a list of players and Dele Alli was on that list.

“Celtic had watched him a couple of times as a youngster just after he’d managed to break through. I bet they wish they’d signed him!”

Alli scored 22 goals in 50 appearances for Spurs during the 2016/17 campaign and will be a part of the England squad that faces Scotland at Hampden Park this Saturday.
