RYAN CHRISTIE believes Scottish clubs must learn to be more streetwise in European football as Aberdeen aim to give the game a much-needed lift by winning tomorrow in Bosnia.

Derek McInnes’s side will arrive in the Balkans this afternoon knowing they must score in the Pecara Stadium against Siroki Brijeg tomorrow.

A 1-1 first leg draw in Scotland has left their hopes of progressing in the Europa League hanging by a thread.

Defeat would be viewed as another disastrous blow for Scottish football after the embarrassing early exits of Rangers and St Johnstone in the competition.

Christie reckons Aberdeen and other Scottish clubs in Europe can be guilty of going too gung-ho when they play in European competitions.

He said: “It’s probably something we are a bit inexperienced at – the whole of Scottish football in fact. It seems like we are always chasing the game. It was frustrating and hopefully we can change it for this week.

“In European terms it’s all about controlling the pace of the game.”
