SCOTLAND prospect Scott McTominay revealed he is drawing inspiration from Paul Pogba and Michael Carrick in his bid to become a first-team regular at Manchester United.

The midfielder scored his first goal for the club in Sunday’s 3-0 win over Ronny Deila’s Valerenga, having already impressed Jose Mourinho in the recent friendly with Real Madrid.

McTominay, who qualifies for Scotland through his grandparents, is expected to be included in Scot Gemmill’s under-21 squad for next month’s match in the Netherlands.

And the midfielder said: “For me, it’s brilliant to be away with them; seeing how they prepare, what they do before games and during training, watching players like Paul Pogba or, in my position, Michael Carrick, and just learning as much as I can from them. I couldn’t be at a better place.

“If I can keep impressing and doing what I’m doing on the pitch then who knows where it can take you.”

The Lancaster-born player made his competitive debut as a substitute in May’s 2-0 Premier League defeat at Arsenal before starting the victory over Crystal Palace in the final game of last season.

“Coming over with the first team for a start and just playing games with them in pre-season and then obviously to get my first senior goal - it’s the best feeling in the world,” he said.

“It’s the best moment of my life so you just want more and more of this. This is what you work for every single day in training. I’m just going to enjoy it now and push forward to do my best.”
