Motherwell have added 22-year-old defender Ellis Plummer to the Fir Park squad after completing a deal for the former Manchester City player until the end of the season.

Plummer came through the ranks at the English Premiership club but after signing youth terms as an 11-year-old, he never made a senior appearance for City.

A free agent after being released, Plummer already has some experience of the Scottish game following a loan spell with St Mirren a couple of seasons ago. Ironically, it was against Motherwell that Plummer made his debut for Saints in 2014.

The player also had loan spells at Oldham Athletic and it itching to make an impact a senior level.

Plummer, who will wear the number 14 shirt this season, said: “I’m delighted. I was desperate for a new challenge and I think this is the perfect place for me.

“I had a taste of Scottish football from my time at St Mirren and I really enjoyed it. It’s very competitive but I think that suits me.”

Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson was pleased with the addition and believed that Plummer is capable of adding some versatility to the Fir Park team.

“I think Ellis will definitely add to our squad – he can play in a number of different positions, left back, left centre back or holding midfield,” said Robinson.

“He is a boy with a massive point to prove – there were very high hopes for him when he was younger but he has had a few injury problems and we are picking up and hoping to give him a platform to get back to where he was.”
