JAK ALNWICK admits mistakes at both ends of the park cost Rangers dear as they missed out on a Betfred Cup final spot on Sunday.

A second half double from Louis Moult – the first a close range finish and the second a terrific lob from distance – clinched a memorable win for Motherwell.

And keeper Alnwick reckons Rangers got what they deserved after a handful of missed chances and a poor defensive showing.

Alnwick said: “There has not been a lot said [in the dressing room]. Well, there has but there has not been many positive things.

“We know we weren’t good enough from start to finish. It was a big chance for us to get into the final and we know that nobody was good enough on the pitch.

“We had chances when we got in down their wings a few times and we just didn’t have that cutting edge that we needed.

“We got in there and there were little moments where we thought we were going to score.

“We didn’t really test their keeper, I can’t remember him making a top save or anything like that, so that is the most disappointing thing.

“It is tough [to concede from a set-piece]. I would have to see it back but I think there are a few fouls in there, which we haven’t got.

“But we need to defend better, we need to do everything better. Over the last few weeks we have been a lot better at set pieces but today they went against us, and I think a few fouls went against us as well.”

After missing out on an Old Firm final at Hampden, Rangers now turn their attentions back to the Premiership this week when they face Kilmarnock and Hearts.

And Alnwick knows Caixinha’s side must react in the right way after another costly defeat.

“We have to [pick ourselves up], we owe it to the fans,” he told RangersTV.

“They were excited about getting into a final and we haven’t done that.

“So now we need to focus on the league and we need to bounce back with three points on Wednesday then Saturday.”
