SCOTT Fox has insisted he was unaffected by replays of the blunder which gifted Alfredo Morelos a goal the last time that Rangers played Ross County being shown on the giant screens at Ibrox before kick-off on Saturday.
Fox switched off in the Ladbrokes Premiership match against the Glasgow club at the Global Energy Arena back in August and allowed striker Morelos to score a simple goal in a 3-1 victory for the visitors.
However, the 30-year-old goalkeeper, who pulled off important saves from James Tavernier and Kenny Miller in the first half at the weekend, revealed the re-runs hadn’t shaken his confidence whatsoever.
“I saw that,” he said. “But I’ve seen it enough times since! To be fair, me, Aaron (McCarey) and the coach Scott Thomson had a laugh about it. All I could do was have a wee smile on the pitch.
“I knew it was coming, it’s just one of those things you have to deal with. It was just obviously just one of things. You know it’s going to happen. I’ve been getting stick for the last two months over it.
“You know what it’s going to be like, but I’m old enough and wise enough to know I’m going to get a bit of stick after something like that. It’s water off a duck’s back for me now.”
Fox, who started his first game since back in October on Saturday, felt that Owen Coyle’s side, who took the lead through Craig Curran early in the first half, had deserved to take at least a point out of the match against Rangers.
“I definitely think we should have got something from the game with the way we played first half, the chances we had and how we kept the ball,” he said.
“If we’d got the second goal it would’ve killed it off. If you get your chances here you’ve got to take them. You also have to be concentrating for the whole 90 minutes – and if you don’t they can punish you at any time, as you’ve seen.
“But I was pleased to get back into the side. Aaron’s done well. But the gaffer’s had a bit of belief and put me back in and I’m grateful for that.”
Fox insisted County, who take on Kilmarnock at home in a league game tomorrow, weren’t down-hearted by their four game winless run and are hopeful they can start to pick up victories and move up the table soon.
“I thought we played some good football,” he said. “The run of games we’ve had has been difficult – we’ve played Hearts away, Aberdeen away and now Rangers away with Celtic at home too. So, I don’t think we can dwell on it too much.
“Maybe last week at home to Dundee we didn’t play at our best. However, against Rangers we showed our quality. Hopefully, we can get a few goals, a few breaks and kick back up the table.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
