PLYMOUTH Argyle manager Derek Adams says Nadir Ciftci will not be returning to Celtic in January despite the striker's struggles this season.

The former Dundee United man joined Argyle on loan last summer but has started just six games and is yet to find the net.

Ciftci's deal does not include a mid-season break clause, but ex-Ross County boss Adams suggested he could leave the club this month in search of more regular football.

"The only way that Nadir will leave in January is if he goes to another club," he told the Plymouth Herald.

"He won’t be returning to Celtic. He will be moving on to another club or he gets himself back in the team here.

“We just have to wait and see. His agent is on the case. I would like to see Nadir playing for us because he’s a talented individual, but he needs to play games somewhere.”

Celtic signed Ciftci on a four-year deal from the Tannadice outfit in 2015, but the Turk failed to make an impression at Parkhead and is currently in his third loan spell.
