ST Mirren manager Jack Ross says he wants to have two signings in on Monday as he looks to freshen up his squad ahead of the last few months of the season.
Jack Ross picked up the Scottish Championship Manager of the Month award for December and is hoping to add a couple of new faces in the midfield early next week. The Paisley gaffer admitted he would have liked to have brought in reinforcements before today’s trip to Dumbarton but that turned out not to be the case.
“I am hopeful we will have two in on Monday,” he said.
“I would have hoped to have one in by tomorrow but it’s taken a bit longer but hopeful we’ll have two in on Monday which will strengthen us a group. Both are midfielders but in different areas of midfield and that will strengthen us because both Ian [McShane] and Stephen [McGinn] have been brilliant for us this season.
“However, touch wood, they have been fit and healthy, and I have carried a bit of luck in that area this season because we have been a bit light in that area. So as I mentioned earlier the squad will be smaller but I think we will be stronger in quality for the remaining part of the season.”
St Mirren are the top scorers in the Championship and even the manager admits he is pleased that every time his players get the ball he expects them to get on the scoresheet.
Ross said: “It’s good. I suppose it depends on what type of manager you are. If you touch back on our defensive record at the start of the season. I was never too critical of us because of the way we set-up and try to play.”
The Buddies travel to face Dumbarton today to face the only team to leave Paisley victorious in the league this campaign and, while the former Alloa boss concedes there are no easy games, he is keen to keep up the momentum.
“I talk about it often enough, every game in this division is really tough and this is traditionally a very difficult league to win.
"Tomorrow is another example of that. The fixtures never get any easier for us. I think the players feel good about themselves individually and as a group as well. The match down at Palmerston just before Christmas is a perfect example, where we came from behind [to win 3-2]. They have a real belief now.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
