RANGERS have completed their first signing of the summer after midfielder Scott Arfield penned a four-year deal at Ibrox.

The Canada internationalist was a free agent after his deal with Premier League outfit Burnley expired at the end of the campaign.

He has signed a deal until 2022 with the Ibrox club, becoming the first arrival of the Steven Gerrard regime, and the new Gers manager was pleased to complete his first piece of business.

"I am delighted to have added Scott Arfield to the squad for next season," said Gerrard.

"He is a talented and competitive midfielder who has competed at a high level in the English Premiership and internationally for Canada.

“It’s pleasing also that we have been able to start our rebuilding process so quickly after the end of the season.

"There is much more to be done of course as we look to build towards our Europa League campaign which will start in early July.

“Scott is the first one in and I look forward to working with him and the others who will be coming in to strengthen the squad.”

The 29-year-old made 18 appearances for the Clarets during the 2017/18 campaign and scored two goals as Sean Dyche's side secured European qualification with a seventh-placed finish.

However, Arfield has been sidelined since February with a calf injury that kept him out of action during the run-in.

The midfielder came through the Falkirk academy as a youngster and spent three seasons with the Bairns before joining Huddersfield in 2010.

He helped the Terriers win promotion to the Championship and earned a move to Burnley in 2013, where the midfielder has been promoted to the Premier League twice and spent three seasons in the top-flight of English football.

Rangers wrapped up their league season with a thrilling 5-5 draw against Hibernian at Easter Road on Sunday.

The result ensured that the Light Blues would finish third for the second season running, earning them a place in the Europa League first qualifying round.
