KEVIN Thomson has confirmed his interest in the vacant Livingston manager’s position and insisted he would be ready to “take the job tomorrow” if he was offered it.

The 33-year-old, who currently runs his own academy in tandem with a post as Rangers youth coach, is in the running to replace David Hopkin at Almondvale, along with current strikers’ coach John Hartson and former Morton manager Jim Duffy.

While he has yet to speak formally to the club, if Steven Gerrard can step up to do the Rangers job, then he is more than ready to take over at Almondvale.

“I’ve prepared myself to be ready – I could take the job tomorrow and I’d be comfortable doing it,” said Thomson. “Do I want the job? I’d be interested in it. It’s a great job, a big job. I want to aim as high as I can as a young coach. The transition for me – and I’m hoping I’m right – is that doing what I’m doing right now is a harder thing than doing something that I used to.

“I’ve not spoken to them, but I’ve inquired about it to see what their thoughts were,” he added. “We’ve got 94 B licence applicants on this course, we had 77 last week for the A licence. There are millions of people who want jobs. I’ve got a great role at Rangers – I really enjoy it. My academy is going from strength to strength. But this was always a team I used to like and obviously it’s close to home as well. So these are things, when you put yourself into the position to take that step, that tick the right boxes.”
