CELTIC have had a bid for Hibernian midfielder John McGinn rejected by the Easter Road club.

The Premiership champions have long been linked with an interest in the player, and tonight they made their move as they tabled an offer, but it failed to meet Hibs’ valuation.

McGinn is going into the last year of his contract at Easter Road, and Derby County and Birmingham City have also been reported to have an interest in the 23-year-old Scotland internationalist.

But Celtic are the first to make a concrete bid for the midfielder as manager Brendan Rodgers looks to strengthen in the centre of the park following the departure of Stuart Armstrong to Southampton.

They will now consider going back in with an improved offer to test the Edinburgh side’s resolve.
