Ayr manager Ian McCall declared Robbie Crawford the "best kept secret in Scottish football" after seeing his side coast past Dundee in the Betfred Cup last-16.

Two-goal hero Lawrence Shankland stole the headlines as he took his tally to 11 goals for the season and dump Premiership side Dundee out of the cup, but it was the performance of Crawford that delighted McCall.

Michael Moffat was another who impressed in the 3-0 win for the Honest Men, with even their manager taken aback at the development of his side.

"Robbie Crawford is probably the best kept secret in Scottish football," he said.

"Dundee just couldn't handle him. He caused them so many problems.

"Shankland obviously gets a lot of credit but Robbie was brilliant here.

"In truth, all our players played their part in the right way.

"There were a lot of brilliant performances and the one thing we do have is a great team spirit.

"We've got a lot of very good players in the final third who proved they can do the business.

"We've always got that threat.

"All of a sudden, things have fallen into place. I'm not sure, as a manager, how much I've had to do with this but long may it continue from our point of view."

Meanwhile, Dundee manager McCann refused to hide their deficiencies which saw them blow the chance to reach the quarter-final and two players sent off, with Sofien Moussa and Genseric Kusunga given their marching orders.

McCann said: "It was just a terrible performance.

"Ayr were very good and if anything, the 3-0 scoreline flattered us because they were better than us.

"I don't think I have seen a performance where so many players are off form in one game.

"We got a warning against Dunfermline here earlier in this competition but this just wasn't acceptable."
