Joe Hart 6
Shipped four goals over the piece but couldn’t be said to be at fault for any of them. Looked confident when recycling the ball in possession and pulled off an excellent stop to deny Betis from a corner in the first half.
Anthony Ralston 6
Started brightly enough and looked a threat bursting forward but was caught out of defence on more than one occasion as his positioning let him down. Good header for Celtic’s third.
Carl Starfelt 6
Set the tone with a few hearty challenges early on and provided a couple of key interceptions with the Celtic defence stretched.
Cameron Carter-Vickers 4
If only the same could be said of Carter-Vickers. Like many of his team-mates, the centre-back started well enough but a couple of sloppy errors proved costly. Was too slow to react to Ralston’s header for Betis’ first and lost his runner minutes later as the Spaniards levelled the scores.
Josip Juranovic 6
Filled in as an auxiliary left-back in Greg Taylor’s absence and produced another accomplished if unspectacular display. Kept things relatively quiet down his side of the park and slammed home his penalty in emphatic fashion.
Ismaila Soro 4
Picked up a booking for a clumsy challenge early on and was lucky to stay on the park after knocking Joaquin to the floor a few minutes later. Grew into the game as he calmed down but should have been quicker to close down Canales for Betis’ third.
David Turnbull 7
Was tasked with getting forward and supporting Albian Ajeti in attack and did so well on occasion, particularly as Celtic struck on the counter-attack. Excellent pass forced the penalty for Celtic’s second and a sublime cross for the third.
Tom Rogic 6
Showed some neat footwork and worked tirelessly but questions remain over the Australia internationalist’s suitability to Ange Postecoglou’s system. Looked a yard short of pace on occasion. Struck the woodwork with a well-hit volley.
Jota 6
Was Celtic’s most dangerous player going forward. Terrific assist to open the scoring in Seville and caused some real problems down the right. His miss at 2-0 proved costly though, and he could have applied himself more off the ball.
Adam Montgomery 5
Was handed a surprise inclusion on the left flank but handled himself just fine in his second start in the professional game. Demonstrated excellent tenacity and technique as he won the ball back and released it for the attack that led to Celtic’s second. Faded as the game went on.
Albian Ajeti 7
There was a touch of fortune about the striker’s opening goal but he showed good movement to be in the right place in the right time. Did well to win the penalty and had a goal correctly chopped off for offside.

James McCarthy 5
(for Soro, 56) Came on to steady the ship in midfield and did just that.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
