Ange Postecoglou insists he doesn’t care what upset Neil Banfield after the Rangers assistant coach’s cryptic dig at the Celtic manager.
Banfield last week claimed he’d made note of comments made by Postecoglou that left ‘a little taste in the mouth’ following the League Cup final. But the Parkhead boss was uninterested in becoming embroiled in a war of words with his Ibrox rival ahead of Sunday’s Scottish Cup semi-final meeting at Hampden.
Postecoglou has been consistently blasé in response to any perceived barbs from his Scottish football counterparts, and he gave Banfield a typically short shrift on Friday.
Asked what he made of the comments, the 57-year-old said: “Nothing mate. I’m not really sure what he’s referring to. It was mentioned to me that he was upset about something.

“I’ve said it a million times, every manager and every representative of every football club has the platform to use it the way they like to.
“It’s my prerogative not to worry about what they say. Look, if I was going to worry about what people say I wouldn’t have lasted a month here.
“They hardly rolled out the red carpet for me and I managed to survive that. There’s not much anyone else can say that’s going to make me worry or think about it too much.
“I know what’s important and what we are trying to do is make our work speak for itself. That’s what we’ll continue to do.”
The vague nature of Banfield’s words had left plenty wondering what he was referring to, and he also added that whatever Postecoglou said had him determined that Rangers ‘were coming for’ their rivals at the national stadium.
But Postecoglou said he was completely nonplussed that Banfield didn’t specify what had annoyed him.

“No, because I don’t care,” he said. “It doesn’t bother me. If something has upset him, it’s upset him.
“He can explain it. It’s got nothing to do with me. Like I said, we all have the opportunity to use the platform we have to speak to the broader audience and how you use that platform is up to each individual.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
