Pedro Martinez Losa has welcomed the addition of Rangers striker Jane Ross to the SWNT after pointing to a lack of composure in the final third as significant in the sobering Nations League campaign.

Ross, with 146 caps to her name, missed 17 months with an ACL but was immediately among the goals on her return to domestic action at the turn of the year.

Martinez Losa has pointed to a number of games where Scotland have dominated but have toiled to get the ball in the back of the net.

And key to being able to return to major tournaments is finding a clinical edge.

“Jane is a total professional,” said the Spaniard. “We know what it is that she brings and we also have Martha Thomas too.

“When did our analysis across the past few months there are many games where we have dominated games in the final third but have not been able to win.

“The game against the Republic of Ireland in the play-off final was just one of many examples. We dominated the game in terms of touches and possession in the final third but we lost the game.

“This is an area that we see over many times that we have the same problem.

“We need to be more efficient when it comes to these areas and be able to be more clinical in front of goal.”

This afternoon’s game is the first time that the squad have been together this year and the first time they have been back since the 6-0 walloping to England that concluded their Nations League campaign.

“It is an opportunity to reconnect after the campaign,” said Martinez Losa. “There is always a togetherness and a belief about the team. We have spoken about the Nations League campaign and it was obviously a difficult moment.

“There are a lot of lessons for us to draw from that and we have had a lot of time to reflect.

“This will be a difficult game for us against The Philippines but we want to give a strong account of ourselves.

“This camp is the only chance we have to bridge the end of the Nations League campaign with the European Championships campaign kicking off.”
