Erin Cuthbert has been named the Scottish Football Writers' Association Women's International Player of the Year.

Cuthbert, 25, has been a key player for Chelsea in the Women's Super League this season, and wins the accolade days after helping Scotland defeat Slovakia in a Euro 2025 qualifier at Hampden Park.

She set up the only goal of the game with a deep free-kick that was headed home by Sophie Howard. The midfielder has hit 22 goals in 67 internationals and provided a plethora of assists.

After securing a league and cup double with Chelsea last year, Cuthbert is eager to add more silverware to her collection before rejoining the international scene as Scotland seeks to maintain their undefeated start in the B2 campaign with back-to-back matches against Israel.

The former Glasgow City star, who succeeds two-time winner Caroline Weir as the recipient of the prize, said: "It's lovely to be recognised, it's nice to have that recognition for my achievements individually, but it's a team sport and we have to now kick on and be successful and get Scotland to a major tournament."

Scotland captain Rachel Corsie and Rangers’ Nicola Docherty joined Cuthbert on the shortlist for the award.

The winner will be officially presented during the 2024 SFWA Player of the Year dinner, sponsored by William Hill, scheduled for Sunday, May 19th.
