THE countdown to Glasgow 2014 continued as the Commonwealth Games baton relay took to the streets of Jersey.
Residents of the Channel Island lined the streets to watch the baton pass as its journey around the UK got underway.
Glasgow 2014 ambassador and Olympic and Commonwealth medallist Tom Daley brought the Queen's Baton back to the Home Nations on Sunday in a packed welcoming ceremony in the picturesque Jersey harbour of St Aubin, the first stop on the British Isles for the relay.
It has been cris-crossing the globe since October last year, with visits to 63 countries including India, Australia and several member nations in the Far East and Africa.
Yesterday, schoolchildren from the Helvetia School choir in Jersey were among the first youngsters to get their hands on the baton, which was also paraded through the island's streets by members of the Jersey 2014 Commonwealth Games team.
The Queen's Baton contains a message from the monarch, which will be revealed at the opening ceremony of the 2014 Games in Glasgow on July 23.
It will travel to Guernsey next before heading north to the Isle of Man, and then on to Northern Ireland on May 20.
The baton will tour England and Wales from May 24 to June 13, before beginning the final leg of its journey in Scotland on June 14.
The latest stage of the relay came as more than 100,000 extra tickets for the games went on sale and Olympic gold-medeallist Mo Farrah confirmed he would be competing in the long-distance running events at the games.
