With the highly anticipated news of team selection accomplished the only wait left is for the competition to begin

Delhi silver medallist Peter Kirkbride will be joined by Louise Mather, Georgina Black and Sophie Smyth.

The Team Scotland coach shares his expectations for this summer's competition.

How fierce is Team Scotland's competition?

Australia is always a strong team as is Nigeria and in the lighter classes India have a good squad. This is my fourth games so we don't read into the rankings too much. Often what competitors can achieve in their own country is very different when they are in a different setting. At Delhi 2010, Canada was highly ranked and Scotland's Peter Kirkbride was ranked 6th - and Peter went on to beat the two Canadians by a mile. England are sending in a strong full team and a couple of the girls will more than likely collect medals along with England's Jack Oliver. I'm confident in each of the Scottish athletes and I reckon in the summer they will beat their own records.

Will Team Scotland weightlifters have a heavy training schedule between now and the beginning of Glasgow 2014?

We are going to Malta which is funded by sportscotland which will consist of two days training then a competition then more training before we come home. It is good for everyone to be together even though they are a close bunch anyway. Back home we are going to have a four week training camp in Kilmarnock five days prior to us arriving in the athlete's village on July 20. It is about getting everything right down to people getting time of work. Some have had to pack in their work as the training is full time. It'd be great to get some funding from the private sector. Weightlifting is not as heavily funded as other sports.

Tell me what the weightlifting spectators can anticipate to witness in Glasgow from Team Scotland.

A lot! Peter Kirkbride is a showman. If he does what I know he can do we will be right up there with the medals. Georgi [Georgina] and her cousin Sophie Smyth will put on a fantastic show. Sophie has only been competing in the sport for two years and she has made massive gains. Louise Mather, coached by Ray Cavanagh is another outstanding sportswoman. There will be no shortage of entertainment from these guys. In Melbourne 2006 and Delhi 2010 we've had two and three athletes compete and this year we have four. It is going to be good.

Has it been a huge blow that Craig Cafrey was not selected for Team Scotland?

Craig has trained with us since he was 10 years old and he should be on the platform competing in Glasgow. Unfortunately he picked up a bad injury in March last year and he only got the go ahead to train at the end of 2013. He reached the required standard at the Commonwealth trials. Two weeks later at the British Senior's he missed the criteria by six kilos. He has previously smashed senior records and he is still just 21-years-old. It is a shame for the sport that he won't be there. He is one of Scotland's best.
