Scotland coach Grant Bradburn was in confident mood as he looked ahead to next month's World Twenty20 Qualifier on the back of a 2-0 series victory over Ireland.

The final game was abandoned without a ball bowled, confirming a rare modern whitewash for Scotland over their oldest rivals. Ireland were under-strength without William Porterfield and Paul Stirling, but their absence does not diminish Scotland's two crushing victories in preparation for the global qualifying tournament on home soil.

Bradburn was certainly in no doubt as to his side's goals going into the competition, which will see Scotland start by playing UAE, the Netherlands and Afghanistan in the space of four days.

"We'll aim to win the tournament," he said, speaking in Bready after the washout. "It's as simple as that. We win the tournament, we're into World T20.

"It's massive for us to come out of the blocks well. We're perennial slow starters in these types of series, but we started very well on Thursday, which we've talked about and it's something we're desperate to do.

"We've been training at the grounds we're playing at and we know exactly who we're going to be up against."

However, the final line-up when Scotland take on the UAE in Edinburgh on July 9 is by no means set, with a number of players having put their hand up in Ireland, most notably player of the series Matthew Cross, who scored 108 runs in the two games batting at number three.

"Matthew has been hugely impressive," said Bradburn. "We've known he's had those skills for a long time and we've wanted to give him the opportunity to bat up the order and he's really relished it.

"There's no secret or magic formula to the way we want to play; we just want to get the very best out of each and every player in parts of the game that they're best suited, and Matthew's got exceptional skills at the top."

But the coach was still keeping his cards close to his chest in terms of selection, with Calum MacLeod still to return to the side. It is however, a sign of strength that any player's selection is by no means a foregone conclusion.

"We've got a number of options up our sleeve. We've got a couple of players to come back into the side so it's just nice to come over here and be able to trial in game situation against a very good side.

"We've trained really well but to put that on the park and beat them is really pleasing. We've got options and all along I've been keen on creating some internal competition and we certainly have that for places in this team."
