Preston Mommsen, the Saltires captain, is happy to welcome the old and the new as his team bid to break their YB40 duck.
The Scots head to Durham tomorrow before continuing their journey south to face Lancashire and Derbyshire on Tuesday and Thursday.
Mommsen believes the triple- header gives them an ideal chance to end a five-game losing streak and is backing debutant Ruaidhri Smith and Neil Carter to make their mark.
Smith, the Glamorgan and Scotland Under-19 all-rounder, could feature for the first time at the Emirates Durham ICG while Carter joins the squad at Old Trafford.
Mommsen said: "I don't know that much about Ruaidhri but it is always exciting to welcome a talented young player into the squad. I've heard a lot about him and everything has been positive so hopefully he'll bring some-thing new and fresh to the team."
Mommsen is also convinced that former Warwickshire all-rounder Carter will have an impact on and off the field. The veteran all-rounder will make his first YB40 appearances after playing in T20 and ODI matches for Scotland and the captain added: "I think Neil is a huge addition to the squad. He brings much more than just what he does on the park – he's a great guy to have around the dressing room. I'm confident he can bring that missing dynamic that can hopefully get us our first win of the campaign. It has been a frustrating start to the season but the heads are up and we're confident we can turn things around."
Tom Latham, the New Zealand batsman, makes his second start for the Saltires after being over- shadowed by fellow-countryman Hamish Rutherford against Essex a fortnight ago. Rutherford scored a century as Essex hit a record 368 while Latham was out in the first over of the Saltires reply.
However, he has since scored a century playing for Durham Academy against Lancashire and is looking to make his mark.
Mommsen's men are also boosted by the return of Majid Haq, who has recovered from a hamstring injury.
Squad. Saltires (v Durham, Lancashire & Derbyshire, YB40, June 16, 18, 20) P Mommsen (capt), F Coleman, T Latham, R Berrington, C MacLeod, M Iqbal, M Cross, M Leask, G Goudie, G Drummond (v Durham only), N Carter (v Lancashire & Derbyshire only), R Smith, C Burnett, M Haq
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
