SCOTLAND's wait for an official one-day international win against a Test nation goes on after yesterday's match with Pakistan was rained off.

Pete Steindl's side had hoped to use the second instalment of a two-match series at The Grange in Edinburgh to avenge last Friday's defeat.

However, torrential rain on Saturday left parts of the outfield saturated and, despite the efforts of the ground-staff, the match was called off without a ball being bowled. Both Richard Kettleborough and Ian Ramage, the match umpires, carried out several inspections before concluding in mid-afternoon that no play would be possible. The decision comes just a year after was Cricket Scotland were forced to cancel a glamour Test with England due to flood damage at The Grange.

Steindl's side – which will revert to their guise as the Saltires for next weekend's YB40 matches with Derbyshire and Surrey– are next in ODI action against Kenya in July, before taking on Australia in September.

There was better fortune for Freuchie, who defeated Dundee HSFP by 12 runs in the only SCL First Division match to survive the weather. One of Freuchie's most impressive performances came from Scott Gourlay, who took four wickets for 19 off seven overs – including Ben Strachan, Dundee's pro.

"It was a great afternoon's work," said Scott Birrell, the Freuchie captain, whose side limited Dundee's batting order to 79 all out. "We were happy to make the decision to bat first and get runs in the bank."
