HAVING hit scores of 176 not out and 177 not out already this season, it is little surprise that batsman George Munsey has been on the radar of Grant Bradburn, Scotland's head coach.

Although those scores came in longer forms of cricket, it came as no great shock when the 22-year-old left hander was named in the international squad this week for upcoming T20 warm-ups with Ireland and then the more important matter of the World T20 qualifiers.

Munsey, who plays his club cricket for CSL Eastern Premiership leaders Mazars Grange in Edinburgh, has been on the fringes of the national team for some time, and last summer played against New Zealand 'A'.

However, after a winter away, Munsey has come back in even better shape and a couple of big hundreds at club level - against Arbroath and Carlton - have been added to by a bucketful of runs for the Highlanders and good performances when on trial at Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire down south.

Munsey said: "I really enjoyed my time out in Australia playing in Canberra over the winter and it gave me a chance to really focus on my cricket.

"I feel I have come into this season in Scotland in good form and it was great to get the chance to test myself playing for Nottinghamshire and Northants respective second XIs.

"With Grange, things have been going well and I have built up a good understanding with Caiden Lang opening the batting.

"I have been batting pretty well this season and against Carlton last weekend [when he made 177 not out] I was feeling comfortable out there so I just kept going and going. I had plans regarding what shots I wanted to play against which bowler and thankfully they came off."

The Scots, with the likes of Heriot's uncapped spinning all-rounder Mark Watt also brought into the fold, head for Ireland early next week to play three matches on Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

Then the squad will continue the build-up to the World T20 qualifiers - held jointly between Scotland and Ireland - with the first pool match against the UAE at The Grange in Edinburgh on July 9.

Munsey added: "To be able to play for Scotland at my home ground would be something extra special. I love batting there so I just have to make sure that I perform well in Ireland and try and cement my place in the batting line-up by the time the qualifiers begin."
