RORY LOY, the Dundee striker, insists he's ready to answer the critics who doubt the Dens Park club can match their top-six feat last season.
Former Falkirk hitman Loy opened his Dundee account with the winner in Friday's 1-0 home victory over Wigan as Paul Hartley's side gear up for their Ladbrokes Premiership opener away to Kilmarnock on Saturday.
Loy said: “I think some people have been saying that we have to prove we can score goals in the top league.
“That's because we have signed some boys from the lower leagues.
“But the manager has a proven record of doing that in the season just past if you look at someone like Greg Stewart.
“So hopefully we can show that we can deliver in that department again with the new lads.
“I want to prove to myself as much as to anyone else that I can do it.
“I've not really played myself for a prolonged period in the top league in Scotland.
“It's going to be an interesting season which I'm really looking forward to.”
Loy is buzzing after his second-half strike sunk the Latics to give Paul Hartley's men a morale-boosting win ahead of tomorrow night's glamour friendly with Everton.
He added: “It's always good for the confidence.
“Getting of the mark is what every striker looks to do when they go to a new club.
“There's no reason why I can't hit the ground running because the manager and the boys have been great with me since I arrived, making me feel really settled.
“There are players in the squad like Greg Stewart and Kane Hemmings who can make things.
“I see it as these guys helping me become a better player and, of course, I want to play as much a part as possible for the team.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
