Scott Allan scored just seven minutes after coming on to a mixed reception at Easter Road, as Hibs booked their place in Monday afternoon's League Cup second-round draw with a 3-0 win over Montrose at Easter Road.

His manager, Alan Stubbs, insisted that the Hibs support hadn’t turned on their midfielder after he handed in a transfer request earlier in the week.

“All the cheering came from our fans,” he said.

“Montrose fans 100 percent booed him but that was drowned out by the cheers of our fans.

“Hibs fans like quality players and he falls into that bracket.”

Scott Martin scored the first goal for Hibs before Allan and Jason Cummings struck in the second half.

Morton performed a second-half demolition job on League Two Elgin City at Cappielow, Stefan McCluskey, Denny Johnstone, a double from Jon Scullion and a Ross Forbes penalty wrapping up a convincing 5-0 win.

Manager Jim Duffy said: “We had a lot of the ball and a lot of opportunities that we didn’t capitalise on, but the first goal was the turning point.

“Everybody got a wee spring in their step and we went on to win comprehensively, but we had to work hard in the early part of the game.”

Clyde were a shade unlucky to lose 1-0 after extra-time to Livingston, the second time that they have been knocked out of a cup competition at the same venue in a week.

Jordan White’s stunning strike was enough to separate the sides, but manager Barry Ferguson was pleased with his side.

“I thought we were the better team second half, we put them under the cosh a bit,” he said.

“I gave them respect, but I knew that the longer the game went on the more they would start to panic and that’s the way it panned out.

“I think we can get a wee bit better on the ball, but we’re only really four and a half weeks into getting to know each other. We deserved more out of the game.

“I can’t fault the fitness levels, they’re scary for a part-time club. That’s all down to the boys working hard in training.

“I thought we finished stronger in the ninety minutes, and looked better in extra-time.

“We had more chances in the second half, in the first half the game plan was to go and frustrate them.”

Dumbarton crashed out 4-3 on penalties to League Two East Fife at New Bayview after a 1-1 draw. Kevin Cawley got his first goal for the Sons to cancel out Nathan Austin’s opener, but he then missed the crucial spot-kick in the shootout to hand East Fife the victory.

Albion Rovers were well beaten at Starks Park, Raith Rovers running out 3-0 winners with goals from

Lewis Vaughan, Kyle Benedictus and Rory McKeown.

Queens Park were beaten 2-0 by Forfar at Hampden, Ayr United beat Brechin City 2-0 at Somerset Park and Stranraer enjoyed victory over Stenhousemuir by the same scoreline.

Elsewhere, there were goals galore as Queen of the South beat Annan 4-3 after extra time in a dramatic game at Galabank, Berwick Rangers stormed back from two goals down to cause an upset against Alloa with a 3-2 extra-time victory at Shielfield, and Dunfermline cruised to a 5-1 win over Cowdenbeath at East End Park.
