MOTHERWELL are in line to profit from Jamie Murphy’s move to Brighton and Hove Albion thanks to conditions agreed when he left Fir Park.

The winger put pen to paper on a deal on Friday that sees him leave Sheffield United for the south coast following two-and-a-half years at Bramall Lane, a switch that is reported to be around £2million.

Despite playing his last game in claret and amber back in January 2013, Murphy’s old club in Lanarkshire have taken a keen interest in developments over the last few days. This is due to a series of add ons built in to his contract with United that would give Motherwell a windfall if and when he was ever sold on once more.

The amount of the payment due to the Ladbrokes Premiership side is unclear, but reports at the time of his Fir Park departure suggest the fee could be around £150,000.

Speaking about his motivation for moving to Brighton, the 25-year-old said: “I want to try to get in my national team, I want to give everything I've got to try and do that.

"If you play well enough it's always going to get talked about, so it's up to me. It's one of the big reasons I felt like making the move was a good thing.”
